Before I opened the shop, I was popping up all over SLO County—meeting other vintage lovers, vendors, and artists. I felt like Atascadero needed more weirdos, so when the chance came up, I took it and moved into the perfect spot on Traffic Way…nestled between Artery (Art Store) and Traffic Record (Record Store). There are some amazingly creative businesses here in Atascadero. Currently, I’m planning a pop-up market in the lot behind my shop with Jen of Coastal Threads to bring back the market vibes to North County.

Golden State Goods has undergone several iterations over the years, but the original belongs to Lily and Steve Sharp. They had the shop in Atascadero and it was a treasure chest of goods. Today, with the blessings of the Sharps, Amy has a new version: Hand-picked vintage and secondhand along with local & indie-made art and wares. She is also a Silversmith (Lover Handmade Jewelry) so there is a nice collection of vintage and native American jewelry. She also offers Silversmithing Workshops in the shop.

Lucky for me, I live 3 minutes away from the shop with my BF Joey Pulsifer who grew up in Atascadero. His mom, Mary founded Bipi G’s (which is still here today) and she also opened a skateshop for Joey when he was 14. He was even in the paper as one of the youngest business owner around. He didn’t care, he just wanted to skate. But I would always hear how anti-growth Atascadero was...even from Mary, who’s businesses was recession-proof. So, it's been hard because people don’t know what we have here. Atascadero has always been a pass-through town. In-n-Out and gas. Fast forward to my first Artshow featuring Linda Macchia & Richard Fusillo back in June 24 and afterwards we thought “lets do more of this” We got together and started Atown Arthop (the rest is history). I’m constantly trying to think of community events to get the people out and shopping downtown as we have such amazing, local, passionate business owners who make Downtown Atascadero a vibe.
